WALL INSULATION

Insulating walls while the studs are open

Plenty of older Spokane houses have walls with little or nothing in them. The time to fix that is when the walls are open: a remodel, an addition, a gutted room or a new build. With the studs exposed we fill every cavity, with fiberglass batts at R-21 or Fiberglass BIBS at R-23.

Fiberglass BIBS (Blow-In-Blanket System) is a form of blow-in insulation for open walls. We put netting across the studs and blow fiberglass in behind it, before the drywall goes up — R-23 in a 2×6 wall. It’s denser than batts and fills around wiring, pipes and blocking, so it doesn’t settle into a cold band at the top of the wall over the years.

Walls already closed up? Tell us about the house when you ask for the free estimate. We’ll look at what’s in the walls and tell you straight what can be done.

Done before the drywall

We insulate while the studs are open, so it fits into a build or remodel schedule.

Worth pairing with the attic

Walls and attic together is where a cold house usually changes most. We’ll tell you which matters more for yours.

Old insulation still up there?

If what’s in your attic has had rodents in it, been through smoke, or got wet, putting new insulation on top buries the problem. That job starts with taking the old material out.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Do the walls have to be open?

What goes into the wall?

Fiberglass batts at R-21, or Fiberglass BIBS (Blow-In-Blanket System) at R-23 in a 2×6 wall: fiberglass blown in tight behind netting.

Is my house a good candidate?

If you’re building, adding on or opening walls for a remodel, yes. For a finished house, we’ll look on the free estimate and tell you straight if it isn’t worth doing.
